Issue 12: Discussion with a Neurologist Part 2

May 22. 2024

Welcome to The Climb, your weekly journey with Lifecycle Sherpa, where we explore Parkinson’s Disease, its symptoms, treatments, tips, techniques, and build a supportive and knowledgeable community.

This week’s trail leads us to…a follow up with a Neurologist who specializes in Movement Disorders.

Question: What is your number one recommendation for those who have been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s versus those who are returning patients?

Answer: “I tell them the same thing always: Be active and go to therapy to learn how to move your body. Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy have helped all of my patients to stay active and independent at home and in their daily lives. They learn how to keep their balance and complete daily routines on their own, even as their symptoms change.”

“I always refer my patients to Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies in order to provide them with the best outcomes throughout their lives.”

While not everyone has access to personalized and individual therapy, there are many resources throughout the internet that provide education and tips on how to move and stay independent. If you have questions about what you qualify for, follow up with your doctor or specialist about a referral to therapies.
