Issue #30 Cognitive Changes (Part 1)

September 25, 2024

Welcome to The Climb, your weekly journey with Lifecycle Sherpa, where we explore Parkinson’s Disease, its symptoms, treatments, tips, techniques, and build a supportive and knowledgeable community.

This week’s trail leads us to… cognitive changes (Part 1).

Question: What is it? Why does it happen?

Answer: Changes and decline in the ability to think, which can affect a person’s ability to learn, remember, concentrate, and make decisions.

These changes typically occur slowly and progress over time. Individuals experience slower thought processing (bradyphrenia), impaired memory recall, impaired attention, visuo-perceptual skills (see previous newsletter on vision changes) and poor executive planning skills.

This can occur as a result of Lewy Body degeneration in the brain.
