Issue #34 Cognitive Changes (Part 5)

October 23, 2024

Welcome to The Climb, your weekly journey with Lifecycle Sherpa, where we explore Parkinson’s Disease, its symptoms, treatments, tips, techniques, and build a supportive and knowledgeable community.

This week’s trail leads us to… cognitive changes (Part 5).

Question: What can I do to stop cognitive decline?

Answer: There is, unfortunately, no way to treat or reverse cognitive decline or dementia. The best options are to:

  1. Stay active (exercise)
  2. Consume a healthy diet
  3. Stay cognitively active
  4. Follow up with your doctor about a referral to see a speech therapist to work on memory strategies and staying mentally sharp.
  5. If you find you are also having a difficult time with daily routines including getting dressing and are forgetting the next step in routine tasks. ask for a referral to see an occupational therapist as well.
