Issue #52 On and Off Periods

February 26, 2025

Welcome to The Climb, your weekly journey with Lifecycle Sherpa, where we explore Parkinson’s Disease, its symptoms, treatments, tips, techniques, and build a supportive and knowledgeable community.

This week’s trail leads us to… On and Off Periods

What is it? You are going to hear a lot about “on and off” times. To put it simply, it is about motor fluctuation (changes) as a result of Levadopa dosages.

“On” is when the medication is working and you have minimal motor symptoms, you are at your best.

“Off” is the in between periods when the medications have worn off and the symptoms are more noticeable.

As Parkinson’s progresses, the “off times” become more dramatic as your cells are less capable of storing dopamine from the medications.
